Canal 22 Internacional reached 10 years operating in the U.S. Hispanic marketIts been 10 years of experimentation, of building audiences, of being a link between immigrants and their countries of origin, their language; and of bringing the best artistic and cultural expressions of Mexico and Latin America, says to PRODU Orissa Castellanos Rodríguez, director of Canal 22 Internacional. Some of the channel achievements include carrying its signal in HD, broadcasting 84,000 hours of diverse programming with original content, acquired rights and programming exchanges; and the growth of its subscriber base from 330,000 in 2004 to 1.65 million in May of this year. The companys goal is to reach five million subscribers by 2018. When asked about the changes in content consumption patterns, Castellanos said: Traditional television continues to be a dominant medium and one of the most resilient. From offering a family experience, it has become more individualized due to the proliferation of channels and other conventional and emerging platforms such as VOD, OTT, YouTube, and online streaming, among others. Television still carries the magic of live broadcast. The main challenge is to redefine the visual narrative with richer content and start producing cross-medium.In regards to original production, Castellanos said the company plans to continue producing the series Mexicanos Exitosos and create a gastronomy show.In the short term, the executive is planning 100% expansion on pay-TV systems in the U.S. as well as taking the channel to other territories in Latin America and Europe.
