Cinelatino will present a special showcase of contemporary films celebrating Puerto Ricos dynamic filmography in honor of the day, 61 years ago, when the island adopted their own constitution and became a Commonwealth in association with the U.S.Puerto Rico has a rich history of film and has been the birthplace of some of Hollywoods top Latino stars, including Benicio del Toro, Roselyn Sánchez, Jennifer López, Jimmy Smits, Esai Morales and Rosie Pérez, among many others.Cinelatino has assembled a showcase of comedy, drama and suspense featured in the following movies, which will air on Thursday, July 25, beginning at 7pm ET: Miente (Lie), a psychological thriller about a young artist living in his own world that will ultimately destroy him, it was Puerto Rico’s selection for the 2009 Oscar Awards; Pasaporte a la fama (Passport to Fame), a dramatic dance competition drama about a rivalry among two women who fight for a spot in their universitys dance company; ¡Qué joyitas! (What Jewels!), a black comedy about two enemies who have to put their differences aside after losing a poker game against mobsters; Desconocidos (Strangers); a contemporary independent horror film about a group of novice actors who unwittingly sign up for a snuff film that threatens their lives.
