Discovery Networks US Hispanic/Latin America announced that it won a gold medal and two silvers at the New York Festival International Television & Film Awards 2012 for its original productions for Discovery Channel and Discovery en Español, Mundos Extremos: Menonitas, Vivir Para Contarlo: Haití and La Ruta de la Muerte.In addition, Discovery en Españols original production La Ley del Miedo has been nominated as a finalist.Discovery received a gold medal in the Community Portraits category for the original Discovery Channel production Mundos Extremos: Menonitas, a documentary that explores the motivations that lead Latin American Mennonites from across the region to live out their ideals and convictions. The company was also awarded silver medals for its original Discovery Channel docudrama Vivir Para Contarlo: Haití, which presents extraordinary stories of survival following the earthquake in that country; and in the National/International Affairs category for La Ruta de la Muerte, an original Discovery en Español production that depicts the humanitarian crisis endured by migrants entering the United States across the Mexican border.The original Discovery en Español production La Ley del Miedo, a documentary that takes an in-depth look at the state of Arizonas controversial immigration laws, was a finalist in the Social Issues/Current Events category.
