Erik Barmack of Netflix: The power of storytelling is bringing people together around the world

For Erik Barmack, VP of International Content at Netflix, the idea of globalization making the world a smaller place scared him, until he realized that with all the content they are doing, they are creating a much more intimate and united world, in which people have many things in common with each other in different territories and cultures.

His mission is to find the best stories in the world, no matter where they come from. Such is the case of La Casa de Papel, which despite being from Spain was a success abroad.

“Thanks to La Casa de Papel we were able to find out that in Colombia nearly 65 million hours of Spanish content were consumed. Another metric that we highlight are the more than 25 million hours of Japanese content consumed in the country, proving that a good story goes beyond borders” said Barmack.

“We are a catalyst so that people can see programs from all countries and cultures, managing to unite more than 30 million people. We are producing programs in 40 countries in 30 different languages. We have 60 seasons of programs in Latin America in different stages of production” he added.

Some of the new productions are Triple Frontera, starring Ben Affleck and Pedro Pascal. Siempre Bruja, which was filmed in Cartagena, standing out for the young talent of the cast. La Casa de las Flores, which will have a second season in 2019 and a third season in 2020. Frontera Verde, will be streamed in 2019, starring Juan Pablo Raba.
