Pitipol Ybarra, who took over as director following the passing of Moisés Ortiz Urquidi
The series Con Esa Misma Mirada, starring Angélica Rivera and produced by Epigmenio Ibarra of Argos, a TelevisaUnivision studio, has become the most-watched original content in ViX’s history since its premiere on March 21, with over 2.3 million hours viewed globally and attracting the highest number of new subscribers to the platform in 2025. Pitipol Ybarra, who took over as director following the passing of Moisés Ortiz Urquidi, shared details about the creative process and working with the cast.
Ybarra joined the project under complex circumstances, as he recalled: “I was in Spain working on a series when they called me. I inherited the already prepared material, and we began shooting two weeks later. Angélica Rivera had already started with the previous team,” he said, highlighting the challenge not just for the production, but also for the cast, in adapting different styles within the same project: “The language of telenovelas is very different from that of cinema — the staging and acting approach — and our lead had to adapt, which she did brilliantly.”
The director praised the lead actress’s professionalism, describing her as “a willing, open-hearted person. A dedicated actress who knows what she wants and is receptive to suggestions.”
He explained his narrative approach as director: “I asked that we all be three-dimensional and project the real truth. That makes the difference.”
The series, based on Señora Isabel by Bernardo Romero Pereiro, was modernized by Jimena Romero, Gilma Peña, and Camila Ibarra: “The scripts have a cinematic rhythm. The characters don’t talk from wall to wall; the camera tells the story visually.”
Finally, Ybarra highlighted the evolution of the story: “Even though it’s a high-caliber melodrama, it’s told using cinematic language.”
The series marks Angélica Rivera’s return after 18 years and also stars Iván Sánchez, Diego Klein, Ximena Herrera, and Pamela Almanza. It is produced by Argos (TelevisaUnivision), with Epigmenio Ibarra and Verónica Velasco as executive producers.
In addition to record-breaking metrics, the series generated thousands of media articles and sparked high engagement on social media, solidifying its status as a transnational phenomenon in Latin America and the U.S.
